Guinan Family Monteliarde Open day 2023

Guinan Family Farm Open Day

A Montbeliarde Open afternoon was held on the Guinan family farm on the 14th September near Tullamore. We had a beautiful day to view some wonderful stock and a nice crowd gathered to hear the history of the Montbeliardes on the Guinan's family farm.

Michael and Concepta with their son Kevin are breeding montbeliardes since 1990 and they tick all the boxes for them. Their breeding programme is supported by Coopex France through their team, Jean Paul in the past and Ferreol in recent years. They milk 117 cows on two Lely robots for nearly three years now. Michael's second son helps keep the nutrition right for the cows as he is currently the dairy specialist in J.Grennans and Sons. Lely were there on the day to talk to anyone that may have any questions about the Lely systems in place. There were also representatives from Dovea Genetics, Bo Sires and Grennans.

We also had Hugh Harney from Agriland who did a piece on the Guinans, you can find the article here.

The Irish Montbeliarde Society wishes to thank the Guinan family for hosting our open afternoon and providing us with refreshments and a very enjoyable day. We would also like to extend our thanks to those business that took the time to attend and be on hand to answer questions.

Our next Open day will be on Jonathan Williams' farm in Tinahely, Co.Wicklow on the 26th September. Keep an eye on facebook and our website for more details.
